Fitness portraits by the Lake: A summer session with Steve in Chicago

Natural fitness portraits — Featuring Steve & his dog Jake

Last summer, I had the pleasure of photographing Steve, a man in his mid-50s who’s deeply committed to his fitness journey and overall well-being 🏋️‍♂️.

He asked me for simple, natural portraits taken outdoors near Chicago’s Lakeshore, where he could be shirtless and relaxed, showing his progress and physical transformation with authenticity — not through perfection, but through confidence.

The session had a laid-back vibe, capturing both portraits and lifestyle moments. In some shots, Steve is joined by his dog Jake, who also got a little spotlight with his own mini photo session 🐶📸.

These types of portraits are about documenting growth and personal pride — and doing so in a setting that feels safe, serene, and empowering.

While going through old files, I found these portraits from May 2014 that I took of a friend nearly two years ago. Though there were several shots, here’s a small selection.

What made this session exciting was the variety of outfits and locations, all captured in different streets of Chacao, Caracas. It’s always great to revisit past work and see how each shoot tells a unique story.

Portraits of Vane

Photo sessions are a wonderful way to preserve memories of yourself during different times in your life. You don’t have to be a TV star to want to have one. This is a simple and natural outdoor session. 🌳

It took about two and a half hours as we moved between several locations in the Chacao municipality, hoping the rain wouldn’t spoil our plans. ☔ She was very pleased with the result.

Las sesiones de fotos son una excelente manera de conservar recuerdos de uno mismo en una etapa determinada de su vida. No hace falta ser una estrella de televisión para querer tener una. Esta fue una sesión sencilla y natural realizada en exteriores. 🌳

Duró dos horas y media recorriendo varias locaciones del municipio Chacao, mientras rogábamos para que no lloviera. ☔ Ella quedó muy contenta con el resultado.
